Are You Addicted to Your Smartphone?
Raise your hand if you’re a smartphone addict. (Raises hand) Yeah, me too. I’m a certified smartphone addict. I literally cannot live without this machine.
My phone serves me. I tell it what to do. It keeps me connected. Messaging apps, instant search results, videos, games, reminders—everything is right there at my fingertips. I can kill time, get work done, and even watch… well, you get the idea.
My smartphone does so much for me. It helps with everyday tasks—buying groceries, remembering things, handling business calls—but at the same time, it messes with me. There’s a fine line between using my phone as a tool and being consumed by it. And I’ve realized that some of my habits aren’t doing me any favors.
So, if you’re anything like me and find yourself glued to your phone, I challenge you to try this experiment with me.
The 3-Day Digital Detox Challenge
For the next few days (or longer if you’re up for it), I want you to stop doing these three things:
📵 1. No Social Media
Challenge: Turn off notifications and don’t open social media apps for at least three days.
You don’t have to delete your apps—just remove the temptation. It’s like having a pack of cigarettes but choosing not to smoke. That’s way harder than simply throwing them away.
⏳ Try this for: 3 days, a week, or even a month. Trust me, it’s tough, but you’ll realize how much extra time you have.
📰 2. No News Consumption
Challenge: Don’t check the news—no headlines, no news apps, no doom-scrolling.
Why? Because the news tricks you into feeling like you’re connected to society, but most of the time, it just feeds anxiety. If something truly important happens, trust me, you’ll hear about it.
🔗 Exception: If you work in media or tech, allow brief, scheduled check-ins on trusted sources.
🎥 3. No Mindless YouTube Scrolling
Challenge: Stop opening YouTube just to kill time. Watch with intention, not as a habit.
I’m not saying don’t watch videos—I’m saying don’t let YouTube decide what you watch next.
✅ Solution: Set a timer before watching a video or only watch pre-planned content. No endless rabbit holes!
Why This Challenge Is Hard (But Necessary)
Unlike smoking or drinking, social media, news, and YouTube aren’t physically harmful. That’s what makes them even more dangerous—because you don’t see the damage happening. But what they really do is:
🚨 Drain your energy
🚨 Steal your focus
🚨 Stop you from creating
They monetize your attention. They take more from you than you realize.
I’m serious about cutting these addictions because I want to fully unlock my creativity. I want to make music, grow my business, and actually create instead of just consuming.
Are You Up for the Challenge?
I challenge you to try this for at least three days. Or if you’re feeling bold, go for a week, a month—hell, even a whole year if you dare.
